Take a file, load it into the WinGZip application, and moments later the tool will compress it using the GZip algorithm. Or, if you already have a .GZ or a .TGZ file, you can test and decompress it with the WinGZip application. All this functionality is offered free of charge.

The WinGZip installation file is only 285KB, which is incredibly lightweight. This means that downloading the file will take very little time. The same can be said about clicking through the setup wizard that helps you install WinGZip on your Windows-powered machine (anything from Windows 95 onward will do).

There are 3 tabs at the top of WinGZip’s interface, each corresponding to the three tasks you can perform with the application: Decompress, Compress and Test. The interface is so simple that you will immediately feel at home.

WinGZip’s purpose is to let you work with files created with the GZip utility. You can use the application to compress files, to decompress .GZ and .TGZ files, and to test files created with the GZip utility. The nice thing is that you can very easily perform all these tasks with the WinGZip application.

As mentioned above, WinGZip is offered free of charge. You can use the application for as long as you want and not part with your hard earned money.

If you need a simple, easy to use, efficient, and free tool to work with files in GZip format, you’re very well advised to give WinGZip a try.

Pros

You can install WinGZip on a PC powered by anything from Windows 95 up to Windows 7. It will take little time to download and install the application. Use WinGZip to decompress, compress, and test files in GZip format. The application’s interface is very easy to use. WinGZip is freeware.

Cons

The interface feels dated.
